Default Screw fell in rotary intake while engine running

Just completed cleaning screens in carbs. Started engine and everything was fine until I tried putting flame arestor on engine while engine was running. I accidentally dropped screw into rotary valve intake (through one of the carbs) and engine stopped. Would not turn over as if dead battery. I checked movement of drive shaft and was impossible to move. It was able to move slightly back and forth with vice grips. Anyway, I removed carbs and saw rotary valve bent where screw entered. My question is: What are the chances of me replacing rorary valve and all being O.K. verses the screw being lodged in the crank and total engine redo is needed? I am not a mechanic and have limited ability to fix unless anyone has suggestions. Bottom line....can this thing be fixed either by myself or by mechanic at reasonable price. My seadoo is a 1996 GTX 787 worth about $1500 (last week) Ha ha :( Really need help.

I can only imagine the feeling you had when you saw the screw go in the motor and then lock up. No you can't just replace the rotary valve and all will be fine. The screw has to come out and anything it damaged will have to be replaced.

Thank you for responding to my question. Since I cannot do this myself, what would you expect a $ range for a mechanic to fix?

I really can't say on the cost of repair because I don't know the extent of the damage. I do know that just the cost of the labor will be outrageous. If I were you, I would download the shop manual from www.seadoomanuals.net for your ski and try to do it yourself. There are some really good people with lots of knowledge on this forum that can also help you. That is one of the reasons this forum is here. Since it is getting close to the end of the riding season, you can take your time and learn about seadoo engines. Seadoo parts are expensive. If there is any way possible, you sure don't want to have to pay for parts and labor. Depending on the extent of the damage, an engine swap with SBT may be your best bet. The engine is going to have to be opened up to locate the screw and see what damage it has done.

The engine will have to be taken apart to remove the screw.
