My ski just died completly one day. it keeps blowing the 7.5 fuse. we checked all connections and found nothing. this is why i think it is the mpem.

Check the stator.. Sounds like the trigger has broken loose and you have a short in the front cover.

          Re: 97 xp mpem

The only place a 7.5 amop fuse is used is for the VTS slot on the MPEM. If you are blowing that fuse, your VTS module is shorting out. Try this, replace all blown fuses and disconnect the connector that feeds power to the VTS. Then if you can start it and it does not blow the 7.5 amp fuse ( or any other fuses ) you know that you need a new VTS module.
Under normal circumstances, the motor will run fine with the VTS disconnected.

Make sure that the 7.5 amp fuse is located in the VTS fuse slot on the MPEM and not mixed up and put into the wrong fuse holder slot.
If you are blowing the 15 amp fuse, the problem is most likely in the mag housing like Dan said. Either the ignition pickup trigger or the stator is grounding out.
If the motor is blowing the 5 amp fuse, it is probably a bad MPEM.

Be advised there is also a 15 amp fuse in the coil box. Without that fuse, nothing gets power.
