I Am Looking To Add Some Performance Upgrades To My '95 Seadoo Speedster Jet Boat With Twin 85 Hp Rotax's. Anybody Have Any Suggestions On What To Do And Where To Get The Stuff To Do It.
I'm passing good advice on something I Doo know about. It's a known fact that the Speedster had a serious cavitation problem up to 97. FYI: The problem can be solved by modifying the Stuffing seal. It's a pain in the arse, but it works.
Like I said, I know this cuz I have one in the drive. I've worked on this P.O.S every spring, for the last five years, and as of this writing, I'm rebuilding the pumps.
I'll have to find the information again, but basically you take out the accordian boot on the carbon seal, and replace it with a stiff hose. I chose not to make this mod because you run the risk of burning up the seal.
You can however, move the boot forward to slightly increase the pressure on the seal, therefore making it harder for the negative pressure to suck air through the seal.
In 98, Sea-doo redesigned the seals and added trim plates on the boat, making it plane better and have less of a chance to cavitate.
like the one person said the best upgrad is a skat-trac swirl impeller. Also, this style impellar will greatly decrease the cavitation problem, I cant say it will be eliminated, as Im not sure what extent Whetherby is talking of, but it inreases efficiency, top speed, and reduces cavitation.
Also, I've heard a lot of people say that jet-boats cant be upgraded that much because of the huge wetting surface, and a number of other reasons making it just not practical if you still want it to run on pump gas. Although a skat-trac would definitely make a huge improvement in handling and grip.
On 95 the carrier seal is needle bearing in a cylinder that the shaft runs
through. With out proper greasing, it wears and leaks, and allows pump to
suck air. 96 and up use two intakes and carbon ring seal. The best thing is
the two intake boat and then back date the carbon seal to the ealier greasable
carrier. Sea doo went to the carbon seal because people fail to grease needle
bearing carrier, sinking boat eventually. You can put more pressure on the
according boot of the 96 and up carbon ring seal for improved hole shot. The
boot gets weaker with time. Ride plates and pumps on all boats should be pulled
engines aligned and resealed if there are cavitation or vibration issues. Not all
boats need this, but some do, due to variations in quality of manufacturing.
Bill is right about the impellers, but I would make sure all else is sound
before investing in new screws.........
As far as motor mods, they are out there, but set up right a bone stalk
twin 14.5 should scare the piss out of you................as far as the best twin
14.5, performance wise, 1996 hands down. Lighter with twin intakes, twin carbs, properly set up, the fastest ones. 97 and up have spotters seat, but
more wieght, but lets the wife say yes cuz it can carry 4. 1999 and up are
quieter, different exhaust set up. 2002 last year of production...Good Luck!
