  • Premixing Fuel

Can anyone tell me the best way to premix the fuel, is there any helpful tips that could help. Thanks

The right way is to use a 5 gallon container when you fuel up. Pour your measured oil in, fill with fuel and shake around before you dump it into the ski. Repeat as needed.

Go to KMart, WalMart, or marine store and pick up a Ratio Rite or Motor Mate plastic bottle. These make mixing oil a snap. I have the Motor Mate and it has markings for any amount of gas up to about 10 gal., I think. It completely takes the math out of figuring how much oil to mix. It has several columns for different ratios. I just put my thumb at the mark on the 40:1 column for the amount of gas I have pumped, then pour that much in. It makes premixing so much easier for me.

The only problem with that is the oil goes right to the bottom of the tank where the fuel pickups are. If you start the ski before the oil is shaken up enough the carbs will fill up with oil and you are stuck until you clean out you fuel lines and carbs.

Another way would be to bring a gal. container with the right ammount of oil for 5 or 10 gal. of fuel. Go to the pump and fill the rest of the 1 gal. container with fuel the shake and put it in the tank. Now just put the rest of the fuel up to 5 or 10 gal. in the tank. mixing it first will help itdisperse in the tank when you fill it up.

But like tech said the best way is to mix it in a separate container first then put in the tank.

if you are worried about mixing and the tank is near empty, pump in 3-4 gallons gas. Add 1pt oil.
Continue filling. Subtract 6 gallons from the
total gas (assuming 50:1). Use your ratio-rite to measure the oil needed for the extra gas.

Thats how we did it back in the day of outboard boats with 20+gal inboard tanks..

            Recomended only for meticulus types..
