    750 sx/Engine running backwards!?!

    help, please, my brother and I recently replaced the little key that holds the flywheel genrator on the driveshaft. So now it runs great but once you put it in the water it doesnt go forward, it sucks water in the back and blows it out the intake grate underneath!

    We don know what is causing this, the local atv shop told me I was crazy. but I pulled the flywheel cover off and checked the direction the starter was turning, it went the right way to turn the prop how it should, so I put the cover back on kicked it over and by watching the driveshaft it was going the other way!

    Does anybody know what is going on?! I havent a clue. my best guess would be a serious advanc ein spark timing but thats all I can guess. has this ever happened to anyone else. we havent ever touched the pump, I swear.

    Thats wacked.....never heard of a motor runnin backwards.........does this ski have reverse?

    IMO..timing would not make it run backwards

      I think you have the stator severely misaligned.

        how exactly could I misalign the stator? its attached to the flywheel cover which only goes on one way and the flywheel oonly goes on one way too?, however I do think that a few of the lead wires to the stator assembly were switched, the two brown ones. possibility for reverse though?

        how does the stator control direction of the crankshaft?

          So you do have reverse?

          Tech support or bill o...or anyone.........not my thing........sounds like something is wired wrong, or lined up wrong.

          Nothing that i am aware of on these things will make a motor spin backwards, unless like you said, you have reverse on this ski.......so IMO is has to be something with that, but i have no clue where to direct you....i'm sure someone can help you out

            we keep tinkering around and still have no clue as to what is causing it to turn backwards. It is really hard to start and tries to kick backwards against the starter direction.

            can somebody explain where the timing comes from because we think that is the most likely culprit, is it part of the stator assembly!
