  • 95 SXi 750 Starter turns but does not engage flywheel ?

So I'm thinking Bendix? But I'd like to hear what else I should check before pulling the motor and flywheel.

What else would cause the starter motor to turn but not engage the flywheel?

And if it Is the bendix, then what do I need to fix it? IE: What special tools and or parts?

    Thanks,

    Matt

You need to pull the flywheel and replace the bendix, yes.

Is there any place that has a write up on how to pull the flywheel on an Sxi? I guess I need to pull the motor.

And where would be a good place to buy said bendix?

      Thanks,

      Matt

Read the tech guide on installing the engine. We have new bendix gears in our store or you can order one from your dealer.

Before you drop the bucks on a bendix, make sure the bronze bushing in the block the bendix fits into is not toast. I had to replace the one in my yamaha last weekend. Same symptoms, I thought it was the bendix, too. Gotta pull the flywheel anyway, might as well check it first. It's hard to see if it's good if the motor isn't pulled. If the bendix moves in the hole AT ALL there's a chance the bushing is rounded out. Good luck.

You will have to order a puller for the Kawasaki 750 engine from your dealer. It screws into the end of the flywheel after you take the center bolt out.

Hi, mate, this is probably too late but: Yes you need to take the motor out of the hull, this is so you can tap the puller every so often and also, don't buy a Kaw fly-wheel puller, it is nothing more then an 18mm x 1.5mm thread pitch bolt, which you can get from any hard wear store. Once your motor is out, cover off and centre bolt removed, screw your puller in to the flywheel until it goes tight, give it 1/4 to 1/2 a turn, then wack the puller (bolt) with a hammer (I'm not talking the full extension of our arm here just a good firm hit). Tighten a little more until it gets really tight then hit it again and repeat untill it comes off.
