  • Polaris Virage I Hour meter issue

I have a 2002 Virage I. Rode it last weekend and at 40mph all of a sudden it went dead. It had a blank display screen and wouldn't turn over. Hit the reset button and the screen displayed but then went blank again. I towed it home and let it sit for a week. I looked at it today and the display is back. I took a look at the battery and noticed the negative terminal line was barely hanging on, the plastic housing was melted, and the negative battery terminal was melted. I took the battery out and put in a new one. Hooked everything up and I glanced at the hour meter and now it's reading almost double what is was reading last week. Last week I had 75 hours and now today it says 142 hours. It also won't turn over. It slowly cranks when I hit the start button. The new battery reads 12.4V on the display when I try and crank it. Anyone know why my hours doubled when I haven't ridden it and why it won't start? Thanks.
