  • 04 XP DI...continued

In case no one remembers, I was having trouble with my 04 XP DI (42 hrs) about three weeks ago. Bogs really bad, cuts RPMs down to 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000, until it dies, runs real bad, bogs, bogs, bogs...(Only in the water, not on trailer)

Anyhow, the first dealer I took it to (I bought the ski there) took a week to figure out they didn't have the VCK connector to retrieve codes from the MPEM. After another week and a half of waiting I decided to take the ski to a different dealer ship. They seemed much more competent.
Anyways, they called me and said they didn't find any trouble codes set.

Their next guess is the fuel pump. They'll be doing a fuel pressure test.

I am tired of waiting on my ski, but at least it seems to be in good hands.

Anybody else's take on this problem?

Wait and see what they come up with. Nobody can troubleshoot your ski over the internet without alot more information.

Sigh...I know. I am waiting on the results of the pressure testing, and I'll report back.
The last dealer was very frustrating.

Sounds like maybe the needle and seats are bad. Pull the carbs. Running out of fuel when you gas it.

          Matt-E,
Waiting can be frustrating, especially when the dealer you bought from seems uncaring or incompetent. Good luck with the new one and good luck getting your ski fixed.

          tommyo,
The DI means "Direct Injection", they don't have carbs (do they?) more like a throtle body I would think.

                So what's a tune-up on a DI?

I did indeed clean the raves, thoroughly.
I also changed plugs and added fuel stabilizer to capture any potential water.

                All to no avail.

I've heard about a lot of problems with the filter outside the fuel pump on my '03 XPdi. Apparently you have to replace the filter and pump as a unit ($400) & can't do the filter separetly. I have yet to have any problem, or even look at this, so I can't say for certain.

Maybe I problem I had is what you are seeing... where after 5 months into my new 01 XP even though it was not DI; I started having starting issues, throttle/response issues, and certianly top speed issues. It got worse and worse.

I was not about to take it to the dealer for service (bad pr from customers)- but I did have a friend that used to work on and build PWCs for racing. He immediately told me the problem: he said that my internal filters (one for each carb) were plugged. OK... that is simple enough, but why? Because all the fuel lines were corroding from the inside!! I removed all the fuel lines and rebuilt the carbs. I clean all fuel related components. I cut a cross section from all the lines and found that each wall was terribly corroding. Does Seadoo know about this? I don’t know. Why are the lines corroding? May be my fault. I sprayed a half can of Bombardier lube into my first tank of gas as a part of the break-in advice from the sales person. If the bombardier lube was not the cause of the fuel line corrosion, then I have no idea why the lines corroded. The sediment was in my fuel/reserve switch, the float/reserve tube, etc. It was the strangest thing I had seen in my years of back yard mechanic’en. Not knowing what really caused the corrosion, I went back with automotive fuel line, not marine hose. Took all of 20 feet to replace all the hose.

So, you might want to check a piece of your hose to see what it looks like. I did tell my sales guy about the hose and did they ever hear of that and they said, “yeah, over time it will corrode”. I’m not sure I buy that… besides, it had only been 5 months. I have had no issues with fuel deliver or filters since.

                      Gifer,
Fuel lines do not corrode. Metal corrodes. But, you are not alone as many have the problem of the fuel lines turning to gum and coming apart. I believe it from the additives in the fuel, like corn alcohol that causes it in parts of America that sell those types of fuels.
His DI does not have the same type of fuel lines as your boat. DI's use high pressure lines from the fuel pump in the tank to the injector rail on the head.

                        Re: 04 XP DI...continued

I am currently waiting for the second dealership (Whom I got a much better feeling about than number one) to perform a fuel pressure test.

As an aside, after some research I believe that under Washington State Lemon Law, I can request an arbitration hearing with the State Lemon Law Administration if I don't' get the ski back by August 12th (30 days total).
I could either get a replacement, or my money back.

Really? Golly, wonderful. I really like the ski, and wish I'd have it back to me, in working order.

But right now I am sorta hoping they will not get it back to me in time, and make Bombardier buy it back.
