I have changed the MPEM on my 1997 GTI because it was dead and kept blowing the 5A fuse. The reason was probably a loose battery connection.
To start:
The dealer has programmed my old key (and one extra new) into the new MPEM. He claims he has done the procedure right, an other dealer (250 miles from me) says he has done wrong. I saw the dealer's computer when he tested the keys. KEY OK on both.
I get one long beep when i attach one of the lanyards. The same sound when I push the start button. The diagnostic (5 times the start button...) tells me 2 short beeps. The connection between lanyard and post seems to be as good as it could.
Since the dealer claims he has done nothing wrong, I don't know how to proceed. My only guess is the lanyard post.
