        Re: Gel Battery?

AGM is Absorbed Glass Mat, and is a highly improved lead-acid type battery. The acid is "absorbed" into a glass (sort of like fiberglass) mat, and is held in the mat like a sponge holds a liquid. This type of construction makes it possible to build very high amperage batteries in small cases, such as the sizes we use on PWC. In my experience, when using a Midtronics Micro-500XL Digital Battery Capacitance Analyzer, the AGM type batteries would test at up to three times their rated capacities (250CCA), yes that is correct some tested at or very near 750CCA. Most of the conventional lead-acid batteries would test at or below their ratings (240CCA)
AGM Batteries are commonly mistaken for a "Gel-Cell" batteries, which do not offer the amperage capabilities of the AGM. In my opinion the Deka Sea-Mate is the premier battery of this type.

Okay I can get a AGM but the part # is like a 20 instead of the 16 is this okay?

Also what would be better a Wal-Mart battery or a normal YUASA or that AGM if the # is okay?
Oh thanks for the info too

Walmart is not my choice for quality marine parts......... The 20 number is fine.

Hi, I have one of these Deka AGM batteries, worked great.

But now I need to keep it maintained over the winter, do they need anything special as opposed to the regular batteries?

Been just giving them a 2 amp charge once a month for about 3 hours.

              Thanks, Joe

                That works!

How about starting a new thread next time, instead of adding a new question on to an old thread. The reason is quite logical; it makes the search function much easier to use to find specific topics.. Thanks again!
