96 GTI continous beep

Here is my situation, When I connect the lanyard I get a continuous beep that never stops. It starts and runs fine but the beeping continues. also The battery and temp lights stay lit on the gas guage while running.


Gas guage works
New Battery
13V while running
Temp sensor is not the problem, I tested this
Gas and Oil are full

If I disconnect the gas guage all together, the beeping stops and i get two beeps when lanyard is put on ... starts runs fine.

If I disconnect just the gas level sending unit, I get a very faint continuous beep and then two beeps when the lanyard is put on . starts and runs fine but the very faint beep is still there. The battery light on the gas gauge is still lit but the temp goes off once its started.

The digital GAS guage works fine (if its plugged in to the sensor)

all this is out of the water ...


QUESTIONS???

Is there a way to test the gas sending unit to make sure its the problem?
Is the faint buzzing noise from the beeper when the gas sending unit is disconnected?

I have a very good multimeter to test with .. if I knew what I was looking for
