Is it the starter or drive

Well everytime I start my ski my starter just turns but as soon as I let go of the button the starter engages and turns the motor a bit. Then right after that on the next try the starter engages like it should. If I run the motor for a little bit I have to go through that same process to start it again. Just went to price starters and found out they sell just the drives. Am I looking at both parts or just one...THANKS

Your starter is fine. You need to pull the engine, pull the flywheel and replace your bendix.
