  • Yamaha 701???

    Hello,

Several years ago I purchased a new engine from a guy in Georgia. I was told that it was a Yamaha 701 from a wet jet(it does appear completely brand new). I was not able to obtain any type of manual from the previous owner and am now ready to use the engine. How do I determine exactly what engine I have and where can I get manuals for hooking up the pump, electrical etc.... I have installed the engine pump combo in a custom wooden boat that I have built. I did find a website that had various parts manuals on line for the wetjet series but was not able to figure out exactly what I had. Any info would be a great help.

    Thanks much

Look around on the engine for a 60 something number as a start, on the head cover, block, jug... what color is the engine, hopefully it is the factory correct color to start with..

Is it a single carb, or dual carb. Pic of engine from front, sides, and top be helpful.

OK, I have found 61X00 stamped on the engine just above the starter housing. the color of the pipe is purple and the rest of the engine is sorta gold colored. It is single carb and has a nice plastic box on top of the carb with wetjet on it. I figure now that it is a yamaha 701. What I need to know is if I need parts or an overhaul kit in the future, do I just say Yamaha 701 or is there more specific info needed. Also, I have a yamaha pump P/N JD-1 cannot seem to find this on any parts list and need the rubber coupling that is between it and engine.

Thanks very much for your help

The 61X is a single carb 701... inake is actually part of the crankcase...

If I recall correctly, the 61X uses a 3 finger coupler, so the rubber should be
        61X-4581J-00-00 RUBBER SHAFT CPLNG $44.82 I think..

WoW!! thanks for the info. Yes there is a three finger coupler on the engine and pump. That sure helps me a lot and I thank you. Can you suggest a place to buy a service manual for this engine??

Yamaha dealer would be best place, the model I have seen that motor in is a 1994 Wave Runner III, friend has 1, had me do the engine a couple year ago.

For the pump, I have not a clue where to refer you, but you might go to www.hlsm.com, and click on the Yamaha PWC link, and look at the forementioned PWC' parts diagrams, and see if anything looks valid...
