I am new to jetskis and have a few questions about my SKI performance. Breif history, 97 GP1200 with roughly 10 hrs on a SBT engine. Last yr it would not idle and ran poorly and you had to hold the throttle to get it to start, top speed was about 50. So over the winter I double checked evrything I thought to. I put new plugs and tuned the carbs. This yr it would idle and start on the first start and ran good, but top speed was still 50. I was running 40:1 mix and this yr I ran 50:1 for a tank. It still smoked like a diesel truck but when the tank got to about 1/4 it woke up and ran like a raped ape. I was getting about 63 to 65 out of it. The exhaust got really loud. I looked it over and found nothing had changed with the mixture screws and the exhaust was still on tight. What would cause this sudden power boost and loud exhaust? I did find a small black plastic ring floating around the ski but I dont think it belongs to the ski. Any Ideas?
