I have a 1996 Polaris SLT 700. Two seasons ago I had a new SBT motor professionally put in it.
First season broke it in - then had a problem with the magnets on the stator falling off. Shop repaired it and said all is good.
Second season ran strong then end of season died while riding. No compression in the forward cylinder. Pulled the head and the exhaust myself. (out of $$$$) Found a cracked ring by the exhaust port. Very very little scoring.
Can I get away with just new rings? Or full Piston, rings, and cylinder?
Where is it measured to see the size (.5mm, 1.0mm, or 1.5mm)? and if doing a new cylinder, does it have to match the old size?
If no new cylinder just rings, do I have to hone the cylinder?
Was this caused be overheating, perhaps lack of oil? and would premixing help prevent this in the future?
THANKS - Desperately need to ride again!!!!
