  • 98 XP Electrical Issues

I have a 98 XP Limited that is giving me all kinds of trouble. Problem one was that the VTS stopped working and then a few days later the ski just died on the lake like someone turned it off. So I checked my fuses to find my VTS and computer fuses were blown so I replaced them and the computer fuse kept blowing. After a little looking through my shop manual I replaced the starter solenoid and the ski came back to life but my VTS stuck at full bow up when I tried to change the trim [what a ride this was]. I checked the fuses again and they were good so I removed the VTS motor and checked it on the battery -(no go) so I zeroed the trim and went back to the lake where the ski ran for about 10 min. and then would not turn over and made no beeps from the computer. I started tracing the power from the bat. and found the 15A fuse in the electrical box to be blown and replaced it. At this point, the computer beeped twice and the engine turned over. Ten min. later it started to smoke at the VTS module, and I unhooked the bat. and pulled the VTS fuse out of the computer. Now I have no beep, no gauges, and no spark but the fuses are staying good. The engine turns over but will not run. What do I do now?

make sure the VTS is unpluged at the back of the ski where the power lines are . when the go they can take out more then just a fuse . check the fuses in the front black electric box also

      Thanks but I looked...

The fuses in the electrical box are good too. But when I unplug the VTS module from the back the VTS gauge shows bow up but no other ones work and it still will not start...
