  • Waverunner 2000 XLT1200 Oil Pump Problems

Our 2000 Waverunner XLT1200 failed after 70 hours. Oil line came off of the rear cylinder and no warning lights or other warnings were seen. The mechanic indicated that most of the 2000 XLT 1200's sold at their dealership failed in the same operating hour time frame, with 50% failing because of the oil line.

Yamaha is denying any responsibility for poor workmanship or product design. I have searched this forum and have not seen this problem mentioned.

Any other forum members know or hear of this or similar problems- particularly with the 2000 model year? I understand that subsequent model years' user manuals were revised to include maintenance checks of this problem.

We have 01 Wavrunner XLT 1200 which lost power on weekend and now we're told it needs piston, sleeve, crankshaft, and more - we're wondering if anyone else has had problems? We have done all scheduled maintenance, winterized properly, have basically treated it with "kid gloves" so to speak, not sure of exact hours but I'm pretty sure it's under 80 so sure were not expecting $4,000 bill, anyone else have any problems? We are being told some kind of "oil pump failure", dealer is not sure what.

Re: Waverunner 2000 XLT1200 Oil Pump Problems

ive seen plenty of yamahas with oil lines that fell off at the pump , BUT in most cases the owners told me they seen oil in the ski and didnt know where it was comming from but still rode it . i think it should fall under user mantince { the seats come off easy } the ski should be check before and after each ride and also offtin if jumping waves . sooner or later the seat will come off its a lot cheeper if the owners take them off to inspect :-)
