  • Is the Rev Limiter and timing control in the mpem or the ignition module on a 96xp?

Which module is the rev limiter and timing control located in on a 96xp, MPEM or Ignition module ? In the early days of the mpems, there was no seperate ignition module and the rev limiter was in the mpem and a signal from the mag was fed to the mpem. In the 93xp, a seperate ignition module was introduced but the rev limiter was still in the mpem and the mpem was still connected to the mag. In some 94 models, it looks like the ignition functions were all in the mpem again but in the 94xp they continued to use the seperate ignition module much the same as in the 93xp. In the 95 HX and the 96 SPX, there was no seperate ignition module and the mpem handled it again. However, in the 96xp, a seperate ignition module was used and the mpem no longer had a connection to the mag. The ignition module in the 96xp is much bigger and has more wiring than those found in older models, including both an input from the mag and the output to fire the ignition coil. I am hoping that someone can confirm that the rev limiter and the timing control is in the ignition module on the 96xp ?

    Thanks for any help.

The MPEM and CDI are both located in the grey box. My racing programmer will not program a new rev limit into a 1995XP 800 CDI, but will program a new rev limit into a 1995XP 800 if I install a 1996 XP CDI into the 1995XP 800 with the orginal 1995 MPEM. So, is the rev limiter in the CDI or the MPEM?

It is in the CDI, along with the timing curve on a DC CDI module equipt ignition like used in the 1995-1996 XP 787 powered watercrafts.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the DC-CDI was manufactured by Ducati or NipponDenso ?
