    Default Carb Rebuild Gone Bad

    I've been having problems since rebuilding my carbs on my RX. I can't get it above 4800 RPM when the pump is loaded (in water), although on the hose it will rev to 6000+. I've gone thru the carbs, passed all the tests listed in my manual pertaining to the carbs.
    * pulse diaphragm holds 4psi for 30 seconds
    * suck & blow test of pump diaphragms
    * N&S hold 10 psi for 30 seconds
    * popoff at 17 psi, leak back to 12 and hold.
    * N&S lever at same level as carb body.

    From the plugs, it looks like at the low speeds I’m running, the mag side is running rich and the pto is running lean.

    One post I found said that the Fuel Pumps' Clear Plastic diaphragms needed to be installed with the "marked//lined" side up/out. I thought the lines were just for making the clear plastic pieces easy to see. Is this a critical factor in rebuilding the pump?

    I also wanted to make sure I plumbed the PTO carb correctly so I drew a diagram so I could put it back together correctly. This is how I have it. The fuel feed from the mag carb to the pto carb connects a fitting on the carb body, while the return line from the pto carb hooks to the connection on the pto cover labeled “fuel” that is in the same position as the pulse line on the mag carb. This seems contrary to the lines shown on this cover that depict the direction of fuel flow.

    Thanks for the help.

    "fuel" marking usually means a fuel inlet... from the fuel pump. The return line show go from the mag carb back to the fuel tank.

    Dont even start it until Bryan helps you get your plumbing straight.

    Take a picture, I don't even want to guess by a description how you have it plumbed.

    The check valves are slightly cupped, the mark denotes proper side up. If it's pumping, it's working.

    17 psi is WAY too low for a stock RX. DO you have any mods?

    Yes, I have prok F/A with N&S 2.3. I'll take a picture and post it.

    If I were to try and describe it again. I would say this. Is the return gas line connector for the PTO carb located on the "intake side" cover plate of the carb. I say intake because this is the area where the pump is located on the mag carb. This cover plate is also used on the mag carb over the pump except it has "pulse" written on it.

    Go to the tech articles and view the 951 Install guide - there are plenty of carb pictures.

    Sounds to me like you have the retun line connected properly from one carb to the other.
