  • New motor won't go in water

I just bought a 94 GTX with a brand new engine. The compression seems uneven. 150 front and 175 rear. I revs out of water but will not go to plane in water. The carbs have been rebuilt. Any help?

Re: New motor won't go in water

When a motor runs way too rich, or is out of time (rotary valve or ignition), it usually won't go to plane when you put it into the water. I would re-affirm that the carbs are functioning properly ( adjuster settings are correct, no stuck open needle and seat, diaphram problem, needle lever stuck allowing fuel to flow freely into the motor ) and that the rotary valve timing is correct.

Sometimes it is as simple as clipping the sparkplug wires back for a new connection, or adjusting the carbs.
