    Question piston broke at pin clip area

    Bought a 96 gtx with was supposed to have a starter mtr problem, I tore into it & found rear piston with needle bearing marks, broken cyl sleeve & piston pin retaining clip area of piston broken away (no more clip groove)
    JUST WONDERING WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS ??

    Was the circlip still in the groove ?

    If you are in So. Cal. bring it by the shop and I'll tell you why it broke.

    Always Beware Of The Old Needs A Starter Routine When Buying A Ski.happens All The Time. I Hear This From So Many People Who Got Burned On Skis Only To Find Out The Motor Is Shot. And Then I Am The One Who Has To Break The Bad News.

    I have had them come in here with the same story, only to find the motor locked up and the wire disconnected from the starter motor.
