  • impeller housing

    Hi,
I'm currently working on a 144 Yamaha pump.
When I teared it out from the boat (the boat was unused minimum 4 years)
I noticed that the impeller was blocked in the impeller housing.
I disassembled all carefully and realized that the impeller was touching in several points the housing. The housing is in perfect conditions but seems to have some reliefs in it that touch the blades of the impeller. The reliefs are very regular and smooth like as the iron had some very strange deformation.......
I think to grind carefully the reliefs till when the impeller mach the housing liner.
    Any advice?
    Thank you Michele

    Re: impeller housing

on that ski it is an aluminum housing with a steel wear ring and over time you will get oxidation between the mating pieces causing that deformation ,you will have to have that rebuilt.

      Re: impeller housing

If the impeller turns freely...dont mess with it. You want a minimum clearance for maximum thrust.

I just hate to see someone replace or rebuild a piece for a minimal increase in performance.
