  • Swamped the ski, Waive Raider 1100

Well I swamped the ski yesterday. All the water is out of the cylinders, and they are oiled up good, but I think there is some resuidal water in the crank, Is there a drain bolt that can be removed to drain any resuidal water out? Also in the efforts to get the ski to fire yesterday and today I think we fried the starter. Where is a good place to get a starter for a reasonible price??

    Thanks for your help...

You need to get it running within a couple hours of sinking, and run it HARD on the water for at least 30 min. If you fail to do so, you can count on your crank being toast. We have starters as well as your local dealer.

if you can not get it running pour a quart of oil in the motor even between the cyls and down the carbs then turn the motor by hand with the plugs out a doz times or so . that might save your crank untill you get a new starter . just make sure you crank it over everyday also when you get a starter on it crank it without the sparkplugs out untill you get the oil out . get the ski running asap if you can not get it running soon tear it down and oil the crank well or you will be buying a new motor .

Its tough to get oil on the crank without the engine running unless you pull the carbs and intake manifold/reeds and spray everything down with a good coating fogging oil (which is what I would recommend doing immediately!!)

Think there is at least 1 used starter currently listed on ebay... new ones are expensive!

Clearly you aren't concerned about saving the engine if you are concerned about saving a couple bucks on a starter and delaying the proper procedures.

Plan on spending $900+ more than a starter if you don't heed my advice. Pouring oil down doesn't save squat - all it does is set a nice amount of oil on top of the water, and mix it around.
If you aren't going to save the engine (if it's not already too late) by running it, tear it down completely right now, and use a few cans of WD-40 to get all the moisture off.

If you do neither of these, wait and procure a starter later, you will then not only need $900+ for a new enigne, but face the good possibility of hundreds more in damage from a thrown rod after the crank gives out. It's a very expensive lesson many people learn every year. Unfortunately not very many listen to me before hand, thinking they can save a few bucks, or just hope for the best.

The starter works fine without plugs in place, and we have turned it over to get all the water to come out that will come out. The starter doesnt work when the plugs are in and the compression puts too much load on the engine. We are keeping it turning with oil everywhere.....

It could be because it is water in there.
