  • Did I winterize correctly?

    here is what i did,

    Pulled spark plugs
sprayed fogging oil into spark plug holes for 30 secs each
turned the motor over for 10 secs
Added a bottle of fuel Stabilizer to a half empty or so tank.
Started the jet ski and jet run for about 30 seconds.

I keep the ski in a garage in Tx so no antifreeze is needed. Also do I need to change the jet pump oil? how do i do that? and any other things needed? Thanks for the help this is my first ski

    Re: Did I winterize correctly?

You need to spray the fogging oil in the carbs with the motor running till it quits or you get a lot of smoke. This gets the oil on the bearings in the bottom end.
Also you should change the pump oil. Old oil can get bad with hard use, it'll smell strong when it's getting old. If there is any water in it you don't want it in there all winter and it's a good time to pressure check it.
Antifreeze help slow down the corrosion inside the motor also. Spray some type anticorrosion spray on the exhaust bolts, around the starter, and around the jet pump to stop corrosion in those areas.
They have a section on her somewhere about winterizing different models. Injected and 4 strokes are a bit different.

just to add one other thing, before you fog the motor, run it for a few minutes so you get the stabilized gas thru the fuel lines and carbs. thats where you need it so the untreated gas dont gum up the carbs.

30 seconds of fogging in the plug holes, holy shnikees! Can you fog too much? I only did it for 3 seconds, as recommended in the winterizing instructions. I should note that I have a 4-tech sc. Does that make a difference with how much fog oil to shoot in?

You don't fog the bottom end and bearings of a 4 stroke the same as is done with a 2 stroke. On a 4 stroke it's important to get oil in the cylinders and on the valves.

wouldn't spraying oil in the plug holes and then turning it over get the oil on the bearings? and 30 secs of fogging is what I was told

              Re: Did I winterize correctly?

Since it is a four stroke the bottom end is lubed by the motor oil like a car engine. The reason you only need to fog for a short time is you only need to coat the cylinder walls above the pistons. In a perfect four stroke no oil from the bottom end would get above the rings and no fuel/air would get below the rings. Hope this helps.

I thought mine was a 2 stroke not a four stroke?

                    Re: Did I winterize correctly?

3 sec of fogging ? your lucky to get it in the carb lol . you should put a little stable in the fuel bowl maybe fill it half full then put the fuel bowl back on , start the ski and fog it untill you get a nice smoked out driveway :-) 30 sec to one min should be fine .

dont forget to grease all fittings /check the jet pump / unhook the battery /spray the whole inside of the ski down with WD or CRC /also spray the jetpump well with oil , it is aluminum and will crustup over the winter .you should run antifrezze though the motor or pour it in even if it sits in the garage .
