  • Question about 580 vs 650 sea doo HELP!!!

I have a 1994 Sea doo with 580 and a single carb. I have found a set of carbs and an intake from a 1994 Sea Doo XP but it is a 650 will this intake bolt up, and will I see a performance increse? Will I have to re-jet, Pipe, ???????

Basicly if it will bolt on is it worth the money and time?

          I think you're wrong Chris, I don't think a dual 650 cover bolts to a 580. 99% sure at least...

No problem bolting it up. But the ports won't be an exact match to the cases, and the carbs will need to be re-calbriated for the 580. If the 580 doesn't have the XP pipe, a set of dual carbs won't yeild much of a power gain. 580 dual carb motor uses a differnt rotary valve timing, 147 degree, not 136.

Look for a dual carb setup from a 1992XP 580. It not only fits right, it is allready setup for a 580 motor. You will also need the pipe, rotary valve and the muffler from the dual carb boat.

Thanks for the info!!!;) And a special thanks to Bill you are always very helpful and detailed in your replys...

Bill, I have the XP you speak of with the yellow motor. (The wifes ride) what are the differences in the motors besides paint color?

The reason I ask is that the 1992 XP runs great but my 1994 sp will spank her any day.. out of the hole or at WOT... Is it the hull design? Does it make that much difference? Both skis are stock to the best of my knowledge other than both are converted to pre-mix and my SP has a SKAT TRAK impeller.

Any info would be greatly appriciated...

There is not alot of meaningful differences other than the mag housing set up and the removal of the CDI and coil into the electrical box, different head cover, but basically the same motors internally.

The 94SP has a better hull, but it really should not spank the XP if the 92XP (a 42-44 mph watercraft) is running at full song with a good impellor........ They sould run close to even. Actually, the XP should holeshot the SP because it is very light.

Re: Question about 580 vs 650 sea doo HELP!!!

I am fairly new to jet skis, and got these two around the same time. The reason I took the SP for myself was 1st like I said it spanks the XP and second the wife feels more secure on the XP she says the hull design is more stable to her... anyway wont I be disapointed If I find out that the Xp is faster but has something wrong.

The XP seemed to run fine so I have been tinkering with the SP I replaced the thrashed impeller with a SKAT-TRAK 14/21 and replaced the wear ring (pinched the bearing in the process) (Remember me now?) Any way I have no idea what the XP has for an impeller. I have not even looked at the ski very much since it runs good and it is hers.

Hey on the subject, will the newer plastic pumps with Brass veins fit in my SP? As I said when I replaced the impeller I pinched the bearing and smoked the pump. I have found a great deal on a pump from a 1997 GSX W Concord 14/22 impeller for under $100.00 ????:D

Buy it, it will bolt into your ski if you buy and install the 4 longer studs so you can attach the nuts to hold it onto the hull.

done deal!!! $126.64 shipped to my door 2 days.. I love E-Bay... Hey bill, what advantages or disadvantages would I have using the 14/22 concord impeller in my wifes ski? I took a closer look and now I know why I was faster than her.

The wear ring in the XP is missing a few chunks and the prop is pretty dinged up. I know the Concord is for a three seater but wont it get her on plane faster and stay more stable? she isn't all about speed so Im not worried if she looses 1-2 MPH as long as she gains something on the other end.

And with the new wear ring and a good impeller she will have to do better than before anyway right???

PS how much do you get for the studs you speak of and how do I order them?

The most pitch you can run in an old 580 XP is 14x19. More pitch than that will make the engine overload and run too hot, kill rpm, and reduce the speed and overall power. A 14x22 is for a 787 powered XP.
