I think our South American friend is saying that his new GP800R with only 5 hours on it is hard to start.

Does it make sense to install a primer kit on that ski?

The carb had accell pumps in them try this.

    1. Turn on fuel
    2. Full choke and turn engine over for 5 sec.
    3. Now pull throttle all the way in three times.
    4. Release the throttle and try to start for 5 sec.
    5. You may have to crack open the throttle a little to get it to start.

If it does not start do steps 3-5 again.

Personally if it were my ski, I'd go with a primer. They fire right up! :)

If you're not mechanically-minded, just get a can of starting fluid at an auto store. On top of the air box, there is a little rubber plug, that's where you squirt it in. Give it a 2-3 second blast, and "caress" the throttle as you crank. It'll light right up! And once it's started that first time, for the rest of the day, you just need to squeeze the throttle fully a couple of time, and again "caress" it lightly while cranking. 'Works like a charm.

If it doesn't fire up in 3-4 seconds, stop cranking, spray it again. If necessary, have a friend help you, and spray bursts while cranking.

I have heard bad things about removeing the choke plates and putting a primer kit on the 800PV engine.

    Anybody else?

I realize he may not be near a dealer, but guys this is a brand new machine - shouldn't he be taking it back to where he got it to tell them something's wrong before tearing into it and replacing parts, adjusting, etc???

Again, maybe a dealer is not available thus my suggestion is not feasible? Just a thought.

I agree with PRO. Something is wrong. Also, I've heard starter fluid should not be used on a 2 stoke. Installing a primer kit on carbs with an accelerator
pump makes no sense. Just sqeeze the throttle 2 or 3 times and it is primed.
