  • Oil injection or pre mix?

I have a 92 Seadoo SPI and it has a near new motor with many new parts. Is the oil injection system reliable? or would you go to pre mixed?

You cant go wrong by going premix. If I would have done it last year id be 1200.00 richer. What happened on my 96xp was the small screws that hold the throttle cable on top of the pump backed out letting the oil go into the hull instead of the motor.

The older Sea Doo oil pumps are excellent if they are not salt water soaked and all corroded. The only thing you will need to do is install new oil lines from the pump to the manifold. Pre-mixing is a filthy pain in the behind if it is not neceasary.

I think it depends on how your filling your ski. If you trailer it to the gas station all the time ya its a little bit of a pain. but if your doing the 5 gal cans because the ski stays on the lake on a lift or whatever premix works for me.

Bill, what year did they stop making the better ones ,is the differance between the internals or just better quality.

Re: Oil injection or pre mix?

All of the pumps are excellent quality Mikuni oil pumps.

In 1995-1996 XP, GTX, and GSX 787 models, the screws on the top cable bracket were prone to coming loose. This was a big problem as the top plate is the cover over the high pressure area of the pump. But, a little red loc-tite on the screws fixes that problem. Most oil pump related failures were due to cracked oil lines, which should get replaced every 2-3 years, just to be safe.

Given the choice, I'd rather not pre-mix. I'd rather do the maintence on the oil pump components.

Great Bill, My oil lines look fairly new and I have not had a problem with the pump yet. I think the pump was replaced when the rebuild was done.

Bill, would you recommend replacement of the oil lines on a 2-3 year basis on all machines, are you speaking mainly of Doos here?

Re: Oil injection or pre mix?

Lots of things can make oil lines harden and crack, like spray chemicals to clean a motor, ect.
So I cannot really give blanket answers to questions like that. Best to inspect them and make your own decisions to replace them.

But any oil lines that are over 3-4 years old would be suspect in my mind.

Bill, Who do you get replacement oil lines from?

Hey Guys, Great topic, I just replaced engine with SBT, oil hoses looked fine, well they had tiny lines around one of them. Yes these were cracks. Then further inspection showed both hoses faulty. I choose to replace oil lines instead of pre mixing gas, ever take a long trip on the Calif. delta looking for a place that sells pre mixed gas? Well thats one good reason to keep the oil injection system. One thing I learned is how important pre trip and post trip inspections are. Tim
