  • Water Flooded Engine

    Hey guys,

Last summer, on my third trip out on the lake with my brand new sea doo...It was upside down for about 5 minutes and have water in the engine. I tried to start the engine in the water and no luck. So I dock the sea doo and dry out the spark plugs and it cranked right up like a champ. I ran the sea doo for at least 6 hours all day long and also the following day.

Should I be concerned about rust in the engine? Perhaps running it all day long dried out the water?

I am anticipating the upcoming bikini season and want to make sure my sea doo is in working order. I was able to start it up yesterday without much effort.

    Thanks in advance buds. :):D

Running it for six hours should have expeled any water that was in the engine.

You should of had it fogged before you put it up for the season.

You should always fog a motor that will not be used for a few weeks. It only takes a min. at the ramp when you pull them out.

Is it possible to fog a motor at the ramp? How?

Hi, thanks for the info/good news.

But what is fogging? And the fact that I didn't fog the sea doo, does it mean the engine is corroding from the inside?

Fogging is a type of lubrication that is sprayed through the air intakes on the carbs. It lubricates the bearings in the lower end of the motor. It helps to prevent rust formation caused by condensation or excess water when the ski is stored. Some say that the ski should be fogged after every ride.

Typically the ski is started and running on the flush kit. Depending on the type of ski there usually is a hole in the flame arrestor that allows you to shoot the fogging oil directly into the flame arrestor/air intake area of the carbs. You need to spray the oil for about a minute and need to keep the ski running with the throttle as the oil will tend to bog down the ski.

Now i am skeching. That fact that I didn't fog the sea doo, does that mean rust is probably in my engine?

Just my opinion. If you ride in fresh water - NO. Salt water - maybe

If I go to an autparts store and ask for fogging oil, will they know what I am talking about or will they give me a weird look?
Any brands that you guys recommend?

                Thanks again, this forum rocks!

Yes. Depending on what type of ski you have, 2-stroke or 4-stroke that is the type of fogging oil you need.

They will give you a wierd look. But if you go to a boat store, they should know what you are talking about.

Sorry to go OT, but is there a fogging hole on the flame arrestors for the 951 xpls? I have never looked for one. I used to fog my 95 gts 580 every other ride because the hole was right there on top.

2 and 4 stroke fogging oil is the same , you can use seadoo lube to fog the engine , works very well . somthing else you can do at the ramp depending on the ski you have is reach down to the oil pump and advance it when the engine is running untill you see some smoke from the exhust works the same way :-) { make sure the cable stays in place if you do it that way } you only need a little extra if your doing it between rides , for winter storage you will want to fog it good .

                            Hey Guys,

I removed the two spark plugs and looked through the holes. I noticed some orange colored rust in between the two pistons.

Is this normal due to the fact that I didn't winterize/fog my engine or is it due to the fact that my sea doo was upside down for about 5-10 minutes? However, I was able to get it started by drying the spark plugs and rode it for about 6 hours and anothe couple hours the following day.
