  • Locked Steering

My 01 RXX Steering has locked. I cannot turn the steering system at all. I have checked the rear nozzle area and cables and do not see anything out of the ordinary. Anyone have any idea what happened? Is there a steering lock on these boats?

No, but your cable or steering bushing may be corroded.

Weird than cause the corrision happened overnight. Everything was working perfectly the day before.

        Re: Locked Steering

If a cable is corroded and a strand or two break, they fold over and jam in the sheath. That's why it's critical to ALWAYS inspect and maintain your cables. It can and does happen while riding too.

all it would take is the nossal getting smacked once to jamb the cable . disconect the cable at both ends and see what dont turn .

            Re: Locked Steering

I think I know what it is. A few days ago it was in the 50's so I washed and waxed the ski and now today it go below 20 and possibly some of the water I used to wash the ski didnt all dry away and froze in some of the parts in the steering. I'll wait and see when it gets warm than diagnose further.

              Re: Locked Steering

I don't know of any steering parts that would hold any water in the first place, let alone enough to freeze solid enough that you can't move it. Now if you forced water up the cable, that's another story. See above...

Yep, it froze the cable in the cable shroud. Thaw it out and I bet it will still work.

                          Re: Locked Steering

The steering on my 98 XP-L and 03 GTX SC always lock in the winter even though they are in a garage. Its because we had about 14 Days with temps never getting above 32 Degrees. After a few days of NON Freezing temps they loosen up ever year. I Hope you find this true in your case!
