    HELP!!!!!
Just Installed the GP1200 Rebuilt engine from SBT this winter. The engine is turning over but is not firing. I checked the fuel line, fuses, plug gap and all electrical connections and the engine is still not firing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you getting any spark to the plugs? If so, pour a cap of oil into a 20 oz. soda bottle and add a few ounces of gasoline. Mix, pour a little into the carbs, and try starting again.

I had the same problem. Got so excited about finishing the install, I forgot to turn the fuel valve on. Hope yours is as simple to fix.

If there's no spark to the plugs, I'll defer to someone else on this forum.

    Good luck.

First thing to check is to make sure you have a good ground connection on the wire connected to the front flywheel cover... but the fact the engine is turning over w/o a spark sounds like either a magneto or cdi issue.

Will the engine on that ski turn over if it's not in START mode?

I have had some Kawi's not start and all you had to do was pull the lanyard and put it back on. It would fire up on the first try. Maybe it resets something in the CDI???

                    Re: Yamaha 2000-GP1200: HELP!!!

yamaha secruity system only disables the primary side of the starter solonoid, so it ski turns over it's not the security feature. Seems to me.........

Not true. It doesn't work correctly all the time and frequently allows the starter to engage, with the ignition cut off. If you haven't had much time on one you probably wouldn't have heard about it.

It also gets real flaky when the battery is almost dead.

Especially since there IS NO 2000 GP1200. I never noticed that in the title, I just read the post content.

                          1200ks - do you have a 1997-1999 GP1200 or a 2000+ GP1200R???

There is nothing about a block that effects spark.

Check your battery voltage, connections, cables, plug wires, try new plugs, etc.
