  • Same Ole Fuel Guage Problem

I Recently Purchased A 98 GP1200R And The Fuel Guage Shows And
"beeps" That There Is No Fuel When The Tank Is Full. I Have Been
Reading The Forums And It Seems The Problem Is The Float. What
Part Do I Need To Get To Fix This? Thanks

Order a new fuel sender unit (the part that fits down in the gas tank).

              Todd,
Instead of spending $100+ for a new sending unit, buy a Polaris replacement float, part number 2872860. It retails for around $23.

Re: Same Ole Fuel Guage Problem

How are you sure his float is bad? The most common problem with the fuel sending units is two things.

Plastic keeper screw came out allowing the float to make it's way into the tank..."plastic screen attachted to his craft"

A bad resister...and or fuse. Usually it's the ver last resister that is bad. They go in increments of this for a gp1200

                R1 100
                R2 150
                R3 200
                R4 250

Test each contact point with your float above each contact with a contnuity tester and ensure that each one works....also test the 1/2 fuse at the top...they go bad from time to time. Yours should test full 0-8 ohms....and empty is 700ohms I think...been a while....but it's up there.

Where exactly is that fuse you're referring to?
