Are there any chips, dents, on the impeller or stator vanes.

It could be pulling air thru the carbon ring you can try and put some grease around the ring and see if it goes away if it does replace it its kind of common on those models.

Mikey 20 hit it right on the head Rotax racing makes a kit to fix this problem. It is common with the 2003 GTX SC I know because I had one with the same problem.

I believe you can buy an upgraded seal from SD. If I'm not mistaken, they changed them for the 2004-2005 supercharged models. If not Rotax racing sells them at 416 745 1044

The carbon seal is located right behind the motor under the driveshaft cover.

NEVER GREASE A CABON RING !!!!

If you grease it, it will be ruined. It needs to be clean and dry to work.

Re: 2003 GTX sc cavitation problem

I would not run the ski for long with the grease on the carbon ring but just long enough to see if it is indeed an air leak. Bill do you have another way of checking that ring other then pulling it apart and doing a visual inspection?

Re: 2003 GTX sc cavitation problem

Yeah, I back the ski into the water and look for leaks.

Any grease at all on the carbon seal will destroy the carbon seal. It uses the lake water to lubricate and cool it.

Bill if i back ski in water and the ring does not leak do i asume the ring is ok or is the ring off seating from low pressure when the ski is running.

I don't understand your question, but you could start the motor and see if it leaks.

I have had a GTX SC with the air leak and it did not leak water just suck air thru the seal :) thats why I used the grease and then I found my problem. Good luck!
