  • Impeller shaft question

I have a very slight groove on the impeller shaft where the shaft rides on the outer bearing ( seal side ). I replaced that bearing and sanded groove mark with 800-grit sandpaper, then buffed smooth. Will this be ok, or does this require replacing the shaft? I can post a pic later today if that would help to answer this.

    Thanks

when you pressure test the pump after assembly if the groove is an issue it will leak .

I should point out that the groove is not ware the seal is, but within the oil chamber ( at the outer bearing ) so this would not affect the pressure test.

I beleave your talking about the caged roller bearing it should be a nice fit and you probably dont want exsessive clearance there so it becomes a jugment call without seeing it in person.

But it will ( or could ) allow the shaft to wobble and quickely ruin the seal.......

I made sure I only sanded and buffed the groove itself and not the surounding area. About 1/8 inch.

Thanks for your replys. I guess I'll run it for a few hours then pull and inspect.

You will only need to remove the cone and check to see if water got into the pump. The oil will be milky looking.

I only blow up motors, not jet pumps, at least so far ;)

                    Have fun in FL
