  • smokey spring cleaning on 95 spx, what to expect?

runs great and plugs are changed regularly and look good to. every weekend this ski starts right up but smokes for a minute until it gets the leaking oil out of it's system.

we'll i'm doing preseason preparation in the driveway and the smoke is NOT going away this year. again she idles and runs smooth, good compression...

can i expect another season before i need some type of rebuild? why the smoke (worn rings?) if i have good compression?

    thanks.

worn rings(possibly a bit of blow by) or you need to adjust the carbs

thanks. don't worn rings give low compression. i'm 140lbs in both front and rear cyl.

when you say carb adj do you mean more to adj with oil injection...as pulling the plugs to check compression and they do look oily already!

There should not be wet oil on the plugs, which i believe is your getting blow by(even slight blow by i believe will not change compression much). I am far from a pro, so maybe someone else will reply, but it sounds like your getting to much oil, could be the pump out of adjustment or the carbs or worn rings.

If everything else is okay (compression, spark oil injector working) I would say that you need to adjust your needles in a bit which will lean out he oil a bit dont go more than a 1/8 or 1/4 turn in and see what this does for you.

i'll check the manual to see if it has specifics but which way is "in" and which way is "out" on the needles? anyone got a good diagram of carb adjustment screws?

make sure your oil cable is not out of ajustment or broke , if the cable breaks { happins a lot } the pump goes into full on . { if it smokin your good } when it stops smokin then worrie

if it runs smooth dont play with the carb settings .

it does run smooth and i doubt i would tweak anything on a carb (i know they are a PIA) unless the smoking is still bad when i get on the lake...

Chances are the center seals on the crankshaft may be leaking a little oil into the crankcases. It will run good until eventually, the seals get worse and leak alot of oil into the cases. When that happens, it will be time to rebuild the motor.
