  • Repeated Front Cylinder Seizure

I've had three front cylinder seizures in three years on an agressively riden 701 raider with a Protec Recreational head and pipe. Compression has always been equal.

Why always the front cylinder? Twisted crank? Top end leak? Partially plugged carb passage? What else should I look for?

What did the front plug look like? Could very well be a dirty carb filter. This is a twin Mikuni? Or a leaky mag side crank seal or the intake manifold gasket/carb gasket.

Very much like you have suggested. Did you install three pistons without tearing the carbs apart? This 701 was re-jetted right?

Also, many rec riders girdle the head of the 701 to the case to avoid hairline cracks in the top end.

Could be so many different things. Do you have the proper piston to cylinder clearance and ring clearances?
