    Tech,

Do you have a tech article on how to remove and rebuild a jet pump from an ultra. There are 4 bolts facing foward. The top two are impossible to access. Does the entire assembly drop down?

    Thanks

remove trim and steering eye ball bolts, remove the 4 bolts holding the steering nozzle on to the pump vein. Then remove the 4 main pump mounting bolts. It will most likely take alittle tug to get it out. Why are you rebuilding it? Bad bearings?

Kewl. I dont have to remove those four bolts yet. I didnt think so but I have a injured arm and cannot do much. Get this, I buy an Ultra with 188 hours. The guy before me has owned it since 02. He said as far as he knew the bearings have never been changed. I have read that they need to be serviced around 50-70 hours. I have changed them on the STX's. In your experience what have you found to be a resonable service interval for bearings on ultras? Also, what advice do you have for a 188 hour ultra?

      Thanks

i think skiworx do bearings for the ultra that last longer than standard ones and i would def. change urs if they been on that long....

here is some instructions i picked up from somewhere else but i think u might have to remove 2 bolts out of the ride plate someone else maybe able to clarify

Remove steering cable from output nozzel
Remove trim cable from output nozzel
Remove the 4 14mm bolts holding the pump to the machine
Use a tie down strap hooked on the nozzel to pull and remove pump
        Remove output nozzel
        remove pump cone
        remove impeller housing
clamp shaft (end that was in cone) in a vice
use special impeller tool and remove impeller
        remove shaft from pump housing
use circlip plyers to remove internal snap ring
using large socket pound out the metal piece that is in the centre where that circlip is
        bearing will now come out
turn pump housing over, using large sockets pound out old seals
clean everything up in a bucket with solvents
lube up the seals and insert them
        put in circlip
put in new bearing as well as the piece infront of it (that goes through the seals)
use the old bearing on the new bearing as well as a large socket to drive the new bearing in there
        put the shaft back in
put on the seals on the shaft as per the diagram on the kawi site.
put pump housing in the vice and put impeller back on
shim impeller and put on impeller housing

get a 5/16" long bolt with a nut and put the head of the bolt in the vice
slide the cone over the nut
slide in a long 1/4" bolt which will keep the nut on the 5/16" from comming out
warm the cone slowly, I used acetylene with no oxygen
2 light taps and the bearing pulled right out.
        clean up the cone
warm it back up and slide in the new bearing
        put cone back on

woohoo you've done your bearing job.

special tools needed that not everyone has:
        Torch
        Vice
        pipe for ratchet
        impeller tool
        24mm socket

        hope this helps

Thanks Mark. It helps. Especially the part about wrapping a strap to the pump. Perhaps the other end to the back of my truck.

          Cheers

oh good point, if you have the stock rideplate you need to remove 2 allen screws between the pump and rideplate. Skiworx bearings and seals work much better!
