  • Oil Blowing out Exhaust?

Got my hands on a 90 SP with a yellow 580 for a great price (FREE). Compression is in the high 130s with only a couple of pounds difference between cylinders, so that is good. Starts on the first push, again, good stuff even after it sat for two months.

I had a problem I posted a while back about it smoking excessively. Well, went to start it the other day and it shot a ton of oil out of the exhaust... Made one hell of a mess on the garage floor.

I am assuming that this means the crank seals are gone. What does replacing theses entail and are there any special tools/processes required?

It means rebuilding the engine with a new crank.

Buy a rebuilt crankshaft. You cannot change those seals yourself.
