  • question on core return for a yamaha

I received the yamaha 650 I ordered, and I noticed a problem with my core when I compared the two. The head on my motor is supposed to be original stock, but now I think its not. The head on my core is red, with 650 stamped around the spark plug holes. It has YAMAHA cast on the head and its machined to show the metal. It looks nothing like the head on the motor I ordered (cometically).
One other question is regarding the pistons. I tore apart the motor and removed the pistons to inspect all the damage. Do I need to reinstall the pistons even though they are no good, or can I just wrap something around the rods to hold them in place during shipment.

Regarding the head question, will this head be acceptable for core return, or do I need to scrounge up a stock looking head. This is for a 1992 yamaha VXR.

BTY, the new motor looks great, but I dont understand why I was sent a kawasaki 1100 remove/install guide?. A mixup I guess.

Sorry about the guide mixup - if you need a hard copy sent out, let us know. Otherwise it's available online in the tech articles section.

No that is not a stock head and would not qualify as a goos core head.

what about the pistons? do I need to reinstall them, or can I wrap the rods to keep them from bouncing around during shipping. Not like its a big deal to reinstall, but it would save me some time if I didnt need to. Thanks

We don't need them at all, no need to do anything.

That is a Head made by Westcoast, for Yamaha. It is identical to the blue Westcoast heads and takes the same removable domes. What number is stamped around the plugs?
