  • I too have the bogs at take off on my 96' 1100 Triple Yamaha Wave Raider

I see advice in here on adjusting the high and low side screws. I'm guessing these are on the carbs, right? Can someone be more specific, I don't want to turn the wrong screw(s). Mine starts and idles fine but if you puch it, it bogs. Sqeezing throttle 5-6 times rapidly will sometimes clear it, as will pumping the priming knob, so I'm thinking it isn't getting enough gas. Don't these carbs have fuel bowls from which to pump gas? What screws should I turn, and how much? Got a picture or diagram anyone?

PS: Once it stops the initial bog, it runs like a raped ape...... no problems unless you slow down or let off throttle, then will bog again, acting like it's starved for fuel.

acting like it's starved for fuel.
    Judging by your post,it is.

Time to clean your carbs and their internal filters..

    If you knew,then you'd know!

Thanks Bustoff. before I completely yank and rebuild (and actually I already have the kits) wouldn't it behove me to try and adjust the "low side and high side" screws.... what ever those are (I assume air and fuel mixture screws).

What I'm trying to understand is which scew to turn?
      on all three carbs?
how far at a time to test results?

      Thanks!

if it has not been played with before the jet setting should be fine , all settings can be found on SBTs site you can check yours by turning then in untill they bottom out then see what the chart says , the low speeds are at the bottom the highs are at the top. some have pliots also when setting them back up its good to go on the fat side

Don´t know if it´ll help but here´s my 2 cents.

I have the same problem on mine and someone suggested that it might be because of my fuel return line. The first raiders had a recall on the fuel return nipple. Pull the return line to see if it has a big or small nipple. If you have a big nipple then that might be your prob.

jiq.... You've got problems. I'd be checking compression, but I bet your carbs need rebuilt. What's the history? Is this just now coming out of winter storage? When did this start happening? If it is just out of storage, you probably need to rebuild the carbs. Was this PROPERLY winterized? could be your fuel delivery system, but I bet carbs.

topwater: Sounds like you need to rebuild those carbs too. What's the history, did this just start this year after you brough it out of storage? I bet you're right, its in the carbs. No float bowl holding fuel, some carbs have accelerator pumps, but it's a diaghragm situation, not like a car's pump, all taken care of with a carb rebuild. If those have never been replaced since '96, that's where I'd start anyway.

Never dealt with the iridium plugs before;do you think maybe that they are causing an electrical problem?

Clean carbs..run wire through pilot jets...Replace needle and seats.. and install new carb kits (diaphrams and gaskets)..........

Those plugs are fine. They are not needed and don't help anything, but they don't harm anything either.

cleaning the carbs won't help ya unless you found a plugged filter that was the only culprit. Looks like a few of us agree, you need to 'rebuild' them with all new parts from a rebuild kit.

                              I checked compression and cyl #1 was 110 psi #2 125 and # 3 120

i don't thinks this cause this problem
