Steering Bushing replacement xl700

I am going to be replacing the lower steering bushings in my 2002 xl700. Does the whole top cowl have to come off or can I get to it. I was feeling around and think I can do it without removing the top.
Has anyone ever replaced these on this model. I know the WaveVentures and the older xl1200 and xl760 were the same boat.
I thank you guys in advance for any help you could give me.

sure you can replace those bushings...try not to drop the bolts........

I know I can replace them, but can I do it without removing the whole top of the ski?(handle bars, cowling, etc)

Use a short ratchet and become like Houdini..
