  • 1993 Gtx Speed Question

    Hi all

I have a question reguarding the top end speed of a 1993 Seadoo GTX. I bought this ski last year with a blown motor. I have rebuilt the motor my self and have been using the jet ski for buzzing around the lake at my sister in laws camp. The most I can get out of the machine according to the MPH guage is about 40 mph. Does this sound about right for this type of ski? I have no idea because this is the only jet ski i have ever owned or ridden. The motor is the white 580cc twin cylinder. I posted another question in the tech dept. concerning an overheating issue and I am woundering if the jet pump could be the problem. If the jet ski slower than its suppose to be then it would be good indication that the jet pump is failing causing my slow top end speed and slow speed over heating issues. Thanks

    Gordon.

Thats about right for which part of my question? How fast the machine is on the water or that the jet pump could be causing the over heating and slow top end speed? Thanks for the reply.

I've got a 93 GTX also... got to love the pink color! It's a 60hp engine and 40 is the top speed. That was pretty fast on a watercraft back in 93.

If you're overheating, I'd flush it with fresh water and check all the cooling lines for blockages. Do you see the two streams of water in the back coming from under the tow eye? These are the cooling system bleed lines and should have streams of water when under way.

            Re: 1993 Gtx Speed Question

By now, you know that 40 is about all the 93 will do (as does mine). The previous comment about the two streams of water coming out the back is a great way to know that water's flowing through the engine and exhaust. If no water is coming out, remove the end of the hose(s) nearest the engine and blow. If air flows freely, you'll know whether water is flowing through the engine and exhaust, as it will come out the back of the ski. If you can't blow through the hose, suck on it. But CAREFULLY, or you'll get a mouthfull of the nastiest stuff you ever imagine. Good for a laugh, though...
