  • Fogging the RXP 4-TECH engine?

I read on another board that the rxp engine should be fogged. I initially thought it might be referring to the outside of the engine, but the same article also recommended spraying the engine with silicon to prevent rust.

The need for fogging does seem to make some sense because water from the intercooler and exhaust water jacket does end up in the exhaust system. So water vapor could make its way back into the cylinders that have their exhaust valves open.

Has anyone heard about this issue?

    Thanks

    Jim

As far as I am concerned there are no boat motors on this planet that cannot benefit from rust protection when not in use. It is common sense.

      Thanks for the reply Bill.

Would you happen to know the best way to fog the 4-TECH. Couldn't be lucky enough to have a port somewhere in the air intake path to do this could I. Also would one use the same fogging oil as in a two stroke.

      Thanks

I haven't read the manual on that proceedure. But I don't see why regular fogging oil would be different for 2 strokes and 4 strokes.

remove the hose clamp at the supercharger and spray fogging oil into the supercharger , it will help keep the valves from getting sticky if your letting the ski sit more then a week at a time between rides , it takes about 5 min to fog it by the time you get the clamp off and back on again .

theres also the rumor that the 4 tech spark plugs dont need to be changed every yr , just after so many HRS , well i have not pull a plug out yet that was not rusting arouns the porcilen , for those who want to listin to the DEALERS , just remember a rusted plug is very hard to get out . if your in fresh water it might not be a problem , if your in salt then new plugs every yr :-)
