  • 1999 Sea Doo GS Rotary Shaft

After almost a month of waiting in line my jet ski has finally been looked at & the sea doo mechanic thinks the problem is the rotary shaft. He is gonna give me an absolute diagnosis in the next couple days. The jet ski will turn over but it won't crank all the way because it is not pulling any gas. Anyways, I saw on here that the rotary shaft itself is only $150, but does anyone have a guess as to how much the total job might cost me. I am sure they gotta take the engine out & who knows what else. Thanks for your help.

Re: 1999 Sea Doo GS Rotary Shaft

A rotary valve shaft and gear never fails without some other reason for it to fail.
Typical causes in order of most common first:A bearing has failed in the motor and jammed the rotary valve.
A foriegn object has gotten caught in the valve, other than a bearing. Like a screw dropped down the carbureator.
The oil lines are dry that feed the RV cavity.

They just do not "wear out".

So, you're saying it's gonna cost me a lot more than just a simple rotary shaft or valve? I'll let you know the complete diagnosis when I find out hopefully in the next day or so. Thanks for the help.

Without tearing apart the motor, nobody knows how much damage may or may not be present in that motor..

I can save you some money on the rotary valve shaft but that is about it. I sell the shaft for 100 complete with the brass gear if you need one email me at installer_man@yahoo.com also you see the price here on SBT but that is not the price the dealer is going to give you for his shaft (LOL) anyway no you are actually looking at maybe a 350-600 bill with parts depending on the shops labor rate.

Depending upon what you find wrong with this motor, the bill could easily reach over $1000.00 for labor and a rebuilt motor installed into your watercraft.
