I have two XPs with 657X engines, stock, 1994s. One I bought with a bad motor, it would idle somewhat with one spark plug removed and out of the water, other than that, not run at all. I pulled the engine out last night to prepare my core to send to SBT. I discovered that the PO, when he did the oil pump block off, he did not keep the other lines for the oil bath connected, in fact the tank isnt even there. Sure enough, the rotary gear has about 30 degrees of play in the shaft when I turn it. My new SBT engine has none. My question is this - if just the rotary part went in the engine, is the rest of the engine likely good? Or does that mess up the rest of it too? Can one replace just these parts from the bottom end?
The other XP has a blown motor too, which I did myself last year. I am going to pull that engine tonight. This one has the oil injection currently hooked up, and I think the oil stopped working or it just got tired after 11 years. The engine got real noisy and clanky as it died over a period of about 5 minutes. Thats the one I think I should send back to SBT, but maybe it really doesnt matter...?
