  • 1100 Oil Pump

I need help quick! We're leaving on Wednesday for a week and a half jetski trip and I was getting my '96 1100 WaveRaider ready and found my oil tank totally empty. (Knowing it was over half full after riding last.) And a 1/2 gallon of oil in the bilge.

I found that the oil is leaking out of the pump on the bottom end. I can't see it, but it feels like the side of the pump cracked out on the bottom. I also can't remove the pump because of the clearance of the bolt to the pump. What is used to remove the pump? I tried sockets and wrenches and can't get on it to turn. 10mm right?

What does a new pump cost vs. an oil block off?
I was looking at the SBT store area and I don't see a block off kit that specifically says it's for an 1100 ... which one do I need?

This is a good time to make the switch to premix.Heres a block off kit from RIVA.Notice they show the same for an 800,1100 and 1200,where SBT only shows the 800 and 1200...dunno what to make of that, but if riva says it will work,it should.

Yes,it should be a 10mm,try an open end wrench coming in from the sides. These are a bear to work on in place, but with a lil patience, you should be able to git it.Too bad we dont have eyes on the ends of our fingers huh ?

    Good luck...

I agree w/ Kubiak, I got my engine as well as all my gaskets from SBT (not trying to suck-up), maybe a little bit more $. But then again, this forum and all the help I've gotten over the years was well worth it. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the help! I got it off with a little tool engineering of my own. Bent the open end of the wrench and ground off some of the wrench head. Worked like a charm!! The pump engineer should be strung by his thumbs for making the tolerances so small.

Now I gotta see about getting the blockoff plate!

(SBT is great ... this ski has one of their engines in it already!)

Just glad I found the problem before I left for the trip.

              Re: 1100 Oil Pump

              A question out of curiosity:

Does the pump need synchronized with the cylinders that need oil or does it just pump oil and everything takes care of itself? I guess there would be only two possiblities to line up with the keyway on the flywheel, just wondering if there is a right and wrong way.

NO adjustments needed....it just simply pumps oil into the throats of the carbs.

No syncronizing needed if you are replacing it,but make sure it lines up before tightening bolts. It will need to be primed though...this is done by gravity. You will just need to loosen the bleeder screw(place a rag under pump) and let the oil flow until you have no air bubbles, then tighten bleeder screw.

                    Re: 1100 Oil Pump

                    Here's what I found:

The keyway of the pump was driven towards the front of the motor and jammed the pump. While trying to install a pump I won on E-bay I noticed that the pump body would not push flush with the flywheel cover to be bolted on.

So off came the flywheel cover to see what was up in there. The flywheel bolt somehow loosened itself up and was pushing on the pump until it finally broke. In the process, stripping the end of the bolt and messing up the threads on the end of the crank.

I think I may have fixed the bolt by running a die over it to clean up the threads. Any ideas of what to do about the crank short of tearing the engine down to retap that? I tried running a tap in there, but it won't bite and start cutting.
