  • 1988 Sea Doo Engine Problem

I am all new to the world of Rotax Engines, so go easy on me. This machine sat for 3 or 4 years when I got it a couple of weeks ago. The first thing I done was flushed out the fuel tank(didn't have much gas in it at all). Put on a new filter in the fuel line. Took the carbs apart cleaned with a fine tooth comb. Reassembled and set the fuel jets where they where before and put the thing back together and fired it up and it ran fine at an idle and when I lightly reved it up. Once I get it to a certain higher rpm it won't go a single bit higher in RPM. It almost acts as if it has a rev limiter on it restricting it from going any higher. When you get it to the highest rpm and choke it a little, it still won't go any higher on rpms. I am at an end on this and need a little experience to talk to me here. I am new to the jet ski thing so assume that I don't know when giving advice. I am a diesel mechanic not a two stroke mechanic.

Yep, sounds like you are hitting the rev limiter all right. Got another question?

Thanks Bill, I'll put it in the water and give it a try.

If it hits the rev limiter while riding the ski, fix the pump/impellor/wear ring.
