    Default Impeller shaft grove?

I'm in the process of replacing the wear ring on my 2001 GTX. It has 85 hours on it and the wear ring got trashed by heavy seaweed and possibly shells and rocks in the surf.
I decided to go ahead and replace the bearings while I had it apart. I notice on the Impeller shaft about 3/4 to 1 inch down from the impeller threads is a very slight groove.
Is this supposed to be there?
