    Re: 95 XP Looses Power

I added the pump as a preventative measure(:emoticonw), I'll definately try filling the hull out of the water, and try running it in the water to check for leaks.

The exhaust coupler leak was fixed, and checked prior to running it this time around. I'll definately not run it at FT from this point forward, and haven't done so since.

      Okey-Dokey, I ran a compression check on the 95, and I have 120psi -120psi

      Are these numbers kosher?

BTW the 657 in my 91 was at 150psi-150psi

If that gauge is accurate, you are ~25 lbs. low.

Well hell I hope it's accurate...if it is what's next?

Then you need at least a top-end job, if not a total rebuild/new motor. That would be a lot of damage/wear.

OK, I see you edited in the part about you getting 150 on another ski. Then your gauge is right and that engine is toast. Pull it out and tear it down, it's done.

How do I ID the engine so I make sure I order the correct parts..etc

                  Pervious owner says 650?

Stock, it was a 717. It has one cooling line out the front of the head, two out the back. The 657/X only have the two out the back of the head.

That's of course assuming you really have a 1995. Look at the last two digits on the VIN tag on the back of the ski to find the model year.

                            +1 meaning that it is a 95

I'm really amazed that these things are this high maintenance....is a comlete rebuild my only course of action?

Most people seem to jump into this hobby thinking they are indesctructible, but any boat owner knows what they really are - holes in the water you throw money into :) It's the price we pay for the fun on the water :)

As I said you need to tear it down for inspection at least.

Yeah, definately know they're not indestructible, just can't believe that most issues result in it needing a total rebuild. I found a pretty good deal on a complete upper rebuild kit so I may go that route after I inspect the cylinders..etc.

Luckily my 91 has a good motor in it, and I can at least enjoy it for the remainder of the season.

I am surprised that the $$ involved in these little engines isn't that much at all...
