  • XL700 Fitting On Cylinder Head Plugged???

I recently purchased a 2001 XL700 that is not running right and am going over it to get it running. I noticed there is a fitting coming off the rear side of the cylinder head that is plugged with a screw and capped with a rubber cap. The fitting looks similar to a hose fitting but basically a straight 9/32 outside diameter. I cannot see the rear fitting in the service manual or the online parts diagrams. There is a water line coming off the front of the head that is shown in the manual and it is bigger in diameter than the rear fitting. The original engine has been replaced so the head is not original if that matters.

Is the rear fitting supposed to be plugged?

    Thanks, Mark

It sounds like the wash port plug - which is used for some aftermarket flush kits. Yes, it is supposed to be plugged unless you have added the flush kit fitting.
