  • piston problem or what???? 97 sltx 1050

I have had a problem with one of the cylinders not fireing or thats what I think. I put new plugs in and ran the pwc. In number 3 looking down throught the spark plug hole the piston top looks silver. In number 1 & 2 the piston head has a darker color to it. The plugs resemble the same thing. What could cause this to happen. It seems that number 3 is not working proper. I have very sluggish take off an top speed of 32 mph. Just seems to be running on 2 cylinders. could there be water in that cylinder and how easy is it to check. Please help.

    Thanks

check to see if you have any spark getting to your spark plug. seems to me you dont have no spark there and you are running on 2 cylinders

I think you may be right on the fuel problem, but there might be more to the problem. I pulled the cover off of #3 and the piston seems to have some chips n the top of it. the walls of the chamber are dry and seem to be a little rusted. there s no visual scaring but I dont know if it s not getting oil or gas or what. How can I fix the gas or oil problem and is my chamber ruined. I cant tell if the piston has any scaring because i cant get it out.

Its probably detonation from lack of fuel.
Post some pictures and the experts (not me) can tell you what they think.

Time for a carb rebuild if your not getting fuel. Also, make sure the oil line is secure.

Pictures please.. that would help :) There should be no rust on your cylinder walls, nor should there be any metal chips anywhere in the combustion chamber.

if you did not injest water into the engine, you're fine, just rebuilt the back carb for starters.
